CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY

We believe that when creating shared value, progress goes hand in hand with respect for the environment.

OUR EFFORTS IN THE GLOBAL CHALLENGE OF CLIMATE CHANGE

Optimize our
energy efficiency

Minimize the use of
fossil fuels

Use environmentally
friendly energy
sources

70% of the water
the Mining Division
consumes is reused.
WATER MANAGEMENT

Water is the most important input at our mines, therefore to guarantee the sustainability of this resource in the communities where we operate, we use closed circuits and have zero process water discharge programs in place.

Also, our Wastewater Treatment Plant in San Luis Potosi processes city wastewater, which is then reused for:

Our

mine
operations
Our

Our

Supplying water to

32,00 city
residents
BIODIVERSITY

We strive to maintain and preserve the ecosystems in the places where we operate.

USD$264
million
invested in the conservation
and protection of ecosystems.
FLORA

We have 9 tree nurseries and greenhouses. We are the top producer of trees in the mining sector in Mexico, with which we:

1. Contribute to the biological diversity and richness of the local wildlife.
2. Increase the population of trees that act as a carbon sink, absorbing CO2 from the environment.

FAUNA

The projects of our Environmental Management Unit include the reproduction of threatened species in danger of extinction, such as the Mexican Gray Wolf and the Gould Turkey.

HABITATS

We protect habitats with great biological richness, covering a total of 121 km2:
• Lands in Mexico
• Wetlands in Peru
• Conservation areas in the United States

CLOSE OF OPERATIONS AND WASTE

The close of operations projects at the former smelter plants in Monterrey and San Luis Potosi, including in situ soil and waste containment, have enabled urban reintegration through a system of open spaces with parks, bike paths, public squares, businesses and pedestrian walkways.

More about the remediation works in San Luis Potosi.
